Winner of the Kelpies Prize
'This is a highly enjoyable and well-written book, a worthy winner of the Kelpies prize, and an impressive debut by Tracy Traynor. The narrative is very strong, with a pleasing evocation of time and place (it's set back when ice-creams cost 10p), and a great deal of humour. Traynor is extremely good at dialogue and characterisation. We get a real sense of each of the boys, Midge the narrator, and his friends Hector, Skooshie, Bru and Lemur. Midge's relationships with his sister Kit and his parents are very realistic. The spooky ghost story is a big bonus.'

'[This book] is clearly no ordinary summer holiday adventure, and is certainly one that will keep you turning the pages as the story unfolds.'
'The author has created a superbly realized sense of place and we can almost be there, sharing their summer holiday. The characters are believable and the plot is fast flowing, with lots of banter and interaction between the young boys. The gradual introduction of the darker element is subtle and the reader has a growing awareness of what has been going on ... This was the winner of the Kelpies Prize in 2012 and a well deserved recipient.'
-- The School Librarian
'The games, banter and concerns of these five Glaswegian boys are central in making this story compelling and Traynor has pulled this off ... Perfect for a confident reader who will stick with the boys right through to the dramatic conclusion.'
'The characters are likeable, the dialogue is natural, and the narrative is engrossing.'
