How to Enter the Kelpies Prize for Writing

The Kelpies Prize for Writing 2020 has been postponed.

Floris Books has taken the sad decision to cancel the Kelpies Prizes for Writing and Illustration this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the uncertain months that lie ahead. The far-reaching impact of the pandemic means that we will not be able to judge the prizes effectively, hold the ceremony or commit to honouring the prize-packages promised to each winner.

We have emailed all our entrants and entries will be rolled over until next year unless we are asked otherwise. We are looking forward to launching The Kelpies Prizes 2021 later in the year.

This year’s entrants were asked to submit the following:

1. The first five chapters of a book for children, plus a synopsis (2-3 paragraphs) summarising the whole book, so we can see how your story will develop.

2. A synopsis (2-3 paragraphs) for a different book for children.

3. A short piece of writing (1,000-3,000 words) for children that begins with:
[Character name] had a secret that no one must ever discover…

The closing date for entries was 5pm, 29 February 2020.
