Enter our Map My Monster competition!

From kelpies and selkies to wulvers and Nessie herself, the world is full of magical monsters and creatures just waiting to be discovered. The question is – where are they all hiding? Help us find them with Map My Monster!

The bookworms and explorers at DiscoverKelpies need your help to draw up a map of all the magical monsters that you’ve heard about in stories. Or, maybe you’ve spotted them in real life!

To build our map, we’re looking for amazing artwork and sensational stories from monster spotters young and old.

Our Map My Monster competition

Young monster spotters can enter our Map My Monster art competition to win a bundle of signed books! To enter the competition, just draw a picture of your local mythical monster on our special Map My Monster sheet. Don’t worry if you don’t have a local monster – you can borrow one from another place, or create your own!

When your mythical monster is ready, remember to send your sheet to us by email or post, marked Map My Monster Competition. Entries will close on 30th June 2018.

We’ll add all of your entries to our monster map. Plus, the best entry will win a bundle of Traditional Scottish Tales books signed by the Lari Don! Runners up will win a signed copy of Lari’s brand new book The Treasure of the Loch Ness Monster.

We’ll announce the winner here on the DiscoverKelpies website on 22nd July 2018. Did you know this date is the 85th anniversary of the first modern ‘sighting’ of Nessie herself?

Share your stories

Folklore enthusiasts can submit their own stories of local mythical creatures too. If you’ve got a tale of a mythical monster in your local area, we’d love to hear it. Write us a paragraph about your local monster – where does it live, what does it look like, and where did you hear about it?

Then send your monster myth to us by email or post, marked Map My Monster. We’ll add all of your entries to our monster map.

About the Book

The Treasure of the Loch Ness Monster is a new tale from Lari Don, inspired by authentic folklore and local legends. This new picture book sidesteps the established image of Nessie to create a new myth. Nataša Ilinčić’s stunning illustrations bring Nessie atmospherically to life. It’s destined to become the classic Loch Ness Monster story.
